Algonquin - Pog Lake – Campsite 431

This is a great campsite for those looking to use the boat launch or spend most of the time on the water exploring. There is a convenient little private trail/short cut that leads to the boat launch parking lot, small beach and the dry toilets. The small beach is sandy and has a nice shallow entrance which is good for the kids. Although, the larger beach in Pog Lake is way sunnier and more spacious for swimming and is my preference.

The campsite

The site itself is large and fairly flat without any major slopes. It provides plenty of distance between campsites for privacy.

The pine forest around is pretty lovely to wander through and you can walk to the edge of the river. It’s not the best for entering the water, but some spots are safe enough that you can launch your boat from there and not have to go to the park’s boat launch.

Here is a spot we used to launch boats

It is not the sunniest of the campsites, since there are lots of tall pines around to create shade, but this is true for most of Pog Lake campsites. If you want to warm up in the sun, best to go to the beach or get in a boat.

Another good entertainment is to bring you bikes. There is a long bike trail that passes through the Pog Lake campground.

The comfort station/flushing washrooms/showers/ laundry is a long walk away, especially long with winy toddlers. We had to drive there a few times.

Poison ivy situation is not terrible and it's fairly easy to spot amongst the pine needles during the day.
